In what ways are Charles Dickens and Ernest Hemmingway different in their views of the world and how men should live?
Here are my opinions about this. In the CC, Charles Dicken's main themes are generosity of spirit, true humanity, Social Justice, and the importance of memory. My favorite one, importance of memory, is shown throughout the entire novella by how Scrooge is changed when he sees his past. Seeing his past was a major key in the changing of his life. In TOMATS, the importance of memory is key also, because when Santiago is struggling to survive, he thinks back on when he won the arm wrestling competition against the champion. Remembering this, gives him more determination to fight back and not give up his fight with the marlin fish. I believe that Charles Dickens and Ernest Hemmingway shared some same views on the world.

Hey Anna
I like your blog! I agree with you about Charles Dickens and Earnest Hemingway.
i would have never thought of it that way before. i guess they both treasure memory. however even though they share a similar theme, they wrote for two completely different purposes. CC was satire where as TOMATS was more of a fictional retelling of an event that happen some time earlier.
Yes, I agree with you, bob. It is funny how two very different stories, can share some of the same things. good observations.
That is a hard question
You answered it very well
Nice abbreveations
i think that while they share themes that they were totally different!
Barzul!
Great blog! I am really proud of you anna! haha, lol
If Charles Dickens and Ernest Hemingway met, what do you think they would think of each other?
It's funny 'cause when I think of Hemingway I think about how he killed himself! One of his themes through the whole book was how we should never give up. Then he killed himself!! Don't you think that he was giving up?
I'm not sure what the two men would think of each other because i don't know much about them myself. I should do some research! thanx laura!!
That's interesting, bethy. I never thought of that. why did he give up i wonder? hmmm....good point.

Sometimes you get in so deep and you can't get out. It's what a lot of people think, and I should know.

Yeah, I guess so....I don't really feel like memory is a huge theme in TOMATS. But I suppose it is there, then again what book doesn't have memory in it? Well, I suppose there are some but still...Memory is such a huge part of life, though. I see your point!

If Charles Dickens and Ernest Hemingway met, maybe Ernest wouldn't have killed himself.
yeah, maybe! Then again, maybe not.
Micah, are you ok? Why are you saying you should know what it is like to be depressed?

i don't really care if everyone knows. That's why I put it on my old blog!
Barzul
Duh! Why do you think I told you! Don't be sorry, it was my problem not yours! Thanks for caring though.
